About This Estimate

This calculator provides estimates based on standard Agenda for Change terms and conditions. It applies to most NHS staff except doctors, dentists, and very senior managers who have different arrangements. Local trust policies may vary. Annual leave calculations are rounded up to the nearest half hour. Always verify with your HR department or line manager for your official entitlement.

How NHS Leave Works

Under Agenda for Change, your annual leave increases at two key service milestones. All previous NHS employment counts, even with gaps.

0-4 Years

27 days

+ 8 Bank Holidays = 35 days

202.5 hours + 60 hours = 262.5 hours for full-time. Wales: 28 days.

After 5 Years

29 days

+ 8 Bank Holidays = 37 days

217.5 hours + 60 hours = 277.5 hours. Increase from first of the month after your 5th anniversary.

After 10 Years

33 days

+ 8 Bank Holidays = 41 days

247.5 hours + 60 hours = 307.5 hours. One of the most generous packages in UK public sector.
